Monroe woman dies crossing SR 522

WSP says victim had been retrieving lost items

A Monroe woman attempting to retrieve lost belongings along State Route 522 was killed when an eastbound SUV struck her around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Washington State Patrol reports 51-year-old Alicia Chavez Barragan had exited a parked vehicle on the westbound shoulder of SR 522 at Echo Lake Road, and then crossed both lanes of travel. 

A 34-year-old Monroe man in a 2018 Audi Q7 collided with the woman. Neither he nor his three passengers were injured.
