Monroe YMCA registration open for Sky Valley Classic; 10-K to highlight city parks

Registration is ongoing for the Monroe YMCA’s eighth annual Sky Valley Classic fun run, a family-friendly event that winds through Monroe’s downtown region.
This year’s event takes place 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at 115 W. Main Street in downtown Monroe. Costumes are encouraged at the run, which features a 1-mile run/walk and a 5-K and 10-K fun run. The 10-K course is meant to highlight Monroe’s vibrant parks system, winding through Sky River, Lewis and Al Borlin parks. The price is $35 for adults, while kids age 6-15 pay their age. The 1-mile and 5-K courses are dog- and stroller-friendly, and awards will be given to the top racers in all three events.

The event includes its traditional costume contest, and music will be provided by Big Dog Music founder Jerry “Big Dog” Dixon.

Promotional codes for a discount on registration costs are available for Monroe police and firefighters, Monroe School District teachers and residents of Monroe. Race packet pick-up takes place noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the Monroe YMCA.

The Monroe YMCA is located at 14033 Fryelands Blvd. in Monroe. To register online for the Sky Valley Classic fun run or sign up to serve as a volunteer, visit http://ymca-snoco.org/locations/Monroe/SkyValleyClassic.ashx?p=1302.
