Muralist David Hose is restoring one of his wall-sized pieces on the wall of Napa in downtown Monroe.
Recovering from open heart surgery, Hose touched up paint that had paled from sun and weather in nine years' time.
It's not the only effort to preserve his art that's afoot in the town; Wendy McDowell, the former co-owner of Eddie's Trackside in Monroe, recently was able to retrieve a mural that had graced the wall over the bar before the establishment closed last year.
The large image of a locomotive engine was removed by a drywall expert in panels, and McDowell believes she has found a new home for the mural; at Valley General Hospital. Hose has volunteered to touch up the paint where the drywall expert had to cut.
And McDowell is now hoping to find a way to preserve a few of Hose's other murals that are in some jeopardy, a group of images that appeared on the walls of the recently-closed Hitching Post Cafe.
