Osaki appointed to community development position

After a recommendation by Monroe Mayor Geoffrey Thomas, the Monroe City Council voted unanimously to appoint David Osaki as the new community development director for the City of Monroe. The appointment took place on March 31, during a special meeting of the Monroe City Council.

Thomas said he was impressed with the way that Osaki presented himself during the interview and feels confident that Osaki will do well for both the business community and the residents of Monroe.

"It's my honor tonight to present him to you for your consideration of appointment,GÇ¥ Thomas said. -á

Osaki comes to Monroe with 30 years of professional experience in community and economic development. He has worked in the public sector for cities like Auburn and Lynnwood and for the last three years has been the community development director for the City of Fife.

His educational background includes a bachelor's degree in urban planning and a master's degree in city and regional planning. He has served as a planning commissioner in both Federal Way and Puyallup.

Osaki said that he anticipates working closely with the council to facilitate sound policy decisions. He expressed that he has enjoyed his initial meetings with Monroe city staff members.-á

"I've been treated with nothing but kindness and respect and professionalism,GÇ¥ Osaki said. "I'm looking forward to working with your team.GÇ¥

Osaki officially started work on April 1.-á
