Park Place committee seeks input to modernize middle school

The Park Place Middle School Design Steering Committee spent the summer planning ways to modernize the school under a bond measure approved by voters in April, and will take community feedback on its efforts 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the middle school library.

Park Place was constructed in the mid-1970s and will undergo major renovations in spring 2016, but a plan first needs to be adopted. The design committee started with 2010 concepts throughout the summer, held hours of discussion and visited recently built or modernized school facilities in neighboring communities.

Voters approved Proposition No. 1 by more than 60 percent in late April, which renewed a bond measure at $1.48 per $1,000 of assessed property value. Passage was estimated to raise $110.9 million, and also allowed the Monroe School District to seek $21.3 million in state construction assistance. The city also estimated an additional $640,000 in collected developer mitigation fees will go toward the project.
