Rocky, the eco dog

For years, Startup resident Inessa Pearce has picked up trash strewn about Sky Valley parks and other public areas. She is usually accompanied by her dog, Rocky, the namesake of her recreational lodging business, RockyGÇÖs Retreat. As a recreation-oriented business owner, Pearce is concerned with the amount of refuse routinely found as she and Rocky explore local areas. Two weeks ago, she and Rocky spent time picking up garbage in the North Kelsey area of Monroe. Over the weekend, the two set out for Osprey Park in Sultan, collecting a large amount of trash left along the new trail system. Keeping the Sky Valley clean and litter free is a small part of her campaign to increase outdoor recreation in the valley. The effort works in concert with her recent petition calling for state officials to halt GÇ£excessive commercial loggingGÇ¥ in the Sky Valley region. She is working to spread awareness of both issues. To see the petition, visit http://tinyurl.com/nlqka85. Photo courtesy of Inessa Pearce
