Run for the Arts Oct. 4

By Cindy Ryden, Contributing Writer.
Maybe it's the jazzy sounds of the jazz choir. Or the intricate sets and costumes designed by the budding actors and actresses on the high school theatre stage. Perhaps it's this year's 170+ band students marching down Main Street. Whatever your favorite genre of academic arts and entertainment, this year's collaboration of Monroe High School performing arts students hold some amazing and unique talents.
However, like many other programs at the high school, funding each year for the arts is limited to the bare essentials. So Monroe High School's Performing Arts Booster, a group of high school arts parents, is holding yet another year of its Run for the Arts event on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
Event activities include a 5k run around beautiful Lake Tye, raffles, and awards for the best runner, walker and group participants. Our jazz band will be entertaining runners along the race path. Subway on Fryelands and the Monroe Arts Council are providing water and refreshments. Paesano's Coffee House is even providing warm coffee on race day. Many other local businesses such as Emerald City Athletics, Dr. Kim, DDS, Shape Up For Life and Player's Music Mart have also made generous donations of gift cards, products and cash donations towards the many events and prizes for this event.
Registration forms are located at: http://www.monroe.wednet.edu/HOME/COMMUNITY_NOTICES/10-04-14RFTARegistration.pdf . The cost is $25 per person ($30 with a commemorative t-shirt), and all money raised goes towards much-needed funds for various arts events, activities, fees, supplies and materials for Monroe High School's Band, Drama and Choir programs.
Check in and registration begins at 8 a.m. with this 5k race getting underway sharply at 9 a.m. Families are encouraged to participate, and your favorite four-legged fur baby friends are also invited.
