Runners kick off inaugural 12K for K-12 race

Runners took off from the starting line on Saturday, Aug.17, for the inaugural 12K for K-12 Fun Run, a project of the Sultan-Monroe #160 Masonic Lodge.
The run consisted of a 6-kilometer route and a 12-kilometer route from Sky River Park along the river, through Al Borlin Park and downtown Monroe.
"Thirty one runners enjoyed a beautiful morning along an equally beautiful route," said organizer Steve Martin.
The Masons raised $2,000 to help pay for education awards to juniors at both Monroe and Sultan High Schools and to supply bikes to the local public libraries for the Bikes for Books reading program.
The run is scheduled again in 2014 on the third Saturday in August, which will be Aug. 16, 2014.
