The Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its 24th-annual fundraiser, and event organizers are looking for items that can be donated to both the live and silent auctions.
This year's event, which will feature the theme "Hollywood in the Sky Valley GÇô Where the stars shine brighter,GÇ¥ will take place at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, at Camp Huston in Gold Bar (14725 Ley Road). Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Visitor's Information Center in Sultan (320 Main St.) for $35 each or $260 for a table of eight, and will be available at the door for $40 each.
Chamber Events Coordinator, Elizabeth Emmons explained that the dinner auction event is the chamber's primary fundraiser for the year, raising funds that are critical to sustain the organization's efforts. Donating an item to the auction not only benefits Sky Valley businesses by shining a spotlight on their products and services, Emmons said, but also helps support all aspects of chamber operations.
"The auction is our main fundraiser and money raised goes toward keeping our lights on so that we may continue to work on behalf of the people of the Sky Valley,GÇ¥ Emmons said.
In addition to implementing strategies to help encourage new businesses and coordinating ribbon-cutting celebrations when new businesses open, the chamber provides networking opportunities, business classes, tax classes, a weekly newsletter, a monthly luncheon and numerous business networking events.
"The Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce is the glue that holds this valley together,GÇ¥ Emmons said. "Under the awesome leadership of Director Debbie Copple, we support local business, promote the valley as a tourist destination and coordinate numerous community celebrations throughout the year.GÇ¥
The chamber helps promote, support, facilitate and encourage numerous community events, including the Sky Valley Community Awards Celebration, the community Easter egg hunt, Sultan's Summer Shindig, the Lip Sync Contest, Gold Dust Days, the Return of the Salmon Celebration, the Sky Valley Farm Festival and Winterfest.
"In addition to that, Debbie and our dedicated team of volunteers staff the Visitors Information Center six days a week. Here, visitors utilize the fax machine, buy hunting and fishing licenses and research local hikes and other outdoor adventures,GÇ¥ Emmons said. "We are proud to welcome over 5,000 guests a year, and they are all directed to local businesses and outdoor adventures in an effort keep those tourism dollars in the valley.GÇ¥
The fundraiser event will include dinner, a live and silent auction, raffle, homemade dessert auction and costume contest. Last year's auction featured items like an African hunting safari, a truckload of gravel, gift certificates for food or vehicle care, flying lessons, zip-line excursions, river-rafting adventures, art, jewelry, photography, sports paraphernalia and hand-crafted items.
Items ranging from small to significant are welcome at the auction.
