Spin-a-thon to benefit special olympics

The Monroe Police Department is holding a spin-a-thon fundraising event to help raise money for the Special Olympics.

Coordinated by Monroe Police Sgt. Cindy Chessie, the day of cycling will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, at Lowe's (19393 Tjerne Place S.E.) in Monroe. The police department is teaming up with Thrive Community Fitness and the Emerald City Athletic Club for the event, which will feature an instructor-led spin workout on 20 stationary bicycles that will be positioned in the Lowe's parking lot.

Participants are welcome to ride for as many hours as they like, at a pace that corresponds with their fitness level. The point of the event, Chessie explained, is to have fun for a great cause.

Pledge sheets are available at Emerald City Athletic Club and Thrive, so that riders can obtain donations for however many hours they plan to ride. Flat donations are also welcome and can be dropped off at Lowe's during the spin-a-thon event. -á
