The second Evergreen State Spring Festival is back at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds next week.
There will be carnival rides, live music, fair food, a kids' zone, animals, a root beer garden, a beer garden, vendors, a barbecue championship and more.
Admission is free. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 26 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 26. Parking is $5 per vehicle.
This free two-day festival, produced by Snohomish County Parks and Recreation, will have more than 60 vendors. For children there is a live trout fishing pond. Attendees can learn gardening tips and listen to music in a covered pavilion, where there is beer for the grownups and root beer for the kids.
The Pacific Science Center's "Science on WheelsGÇ¥ Engineering Exhibit will be there, as will the Reptile Man, the Busy Bee Quilt Show,-áand the Washington State Spring BBQ Championship, at which visitors can try samples. Seattle supergroup Spike & the Impalers are performing in the Events Center at 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and Master Gardener Ciscoe Morris will be on stage from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Although the Spike & the Impalers concert is a free show, you must have a free ticket for entry into this event due to limited seating capacity. Two free tickets per person will be available at 3 p.m. the day of show, April 26, in the fairgrounds administration office on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Butler Amusements will once again bring carnival rides and games to the event. Although there is no admission fee to the festival, the carnival does charge for rides and games. The carnival will run from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The Washington State Spring BBQ Championship competition held on Saturday and Sunday is a sanctioned event of the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS). More than 20 top barbecue competition teams in the Pacific Northwest will compete for a grand prize purse in this first stop of the 2014 barbecue competition season.
The youth casting pond for live trout is once again sponsored by Les Schwab Tire Centers. The 37-inch deep, 20-by-8-foot pond will be stocked with lots of trout and is hosted by The Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club. Aspiring anglers and first-time fishermen ages 12 and under can catch and release (or keep) a live trout. All gear is provided.
Food stands will sell festival foods such as scones and elephant ears for those who can't wait for the Evergreen State Fair in August. In addition, a horse show, swap meet and Evergreen Speedway auto races are scheduled at the fairgrounds that weekend.
