Staging starts for $69 million Park Place Middle School modernization project

Cornerstone Construction began prepping the front of Park Place Middle School on Friday, June 3, as the staging area for the school's $69 million modernization project approved by voters last spring.

Flowering cherry trees will be removed, while large cedar trees in front of the school will be preserved as part of the new campus. The cherry trees must be moved to make way for a new bus driveway, which will also provide access for emergency vehicles.

New cherry trees are expected to be planted by students during a future ceremony and once construction is completed, just as students planted the originals back in the 1970s, when the campus opened as the high school.
