Sultan and Gold Bar Elementary: Ready for back-to-school

SULTAN ELEMENTARY
Sultan Elementary School, home of the Cougars, will be offering free full-day kindergarten for the 2014 to 2015 school year.
A Washington State School of Distinction in 2011, 2012 and 2013, Sultan Elementary has also received honors in academic achievement for the past two consecutive years. Most recently, in 2013, they were honored for high progress and growth in reading and math.
Classroom listings will be posted in the gym until Friday, Aug. 29. Families are invited to come between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to review the lists.
A family meet-and-greet will take place from 3 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, for parents to help their kids locate their classrooms. Students and parents will be able to meet teachers and organize their class supplies.
Sultan Elementary School is located at 501 Date St. in Sultan.
GOLD BAR ELEMENTARY
As Gold Bar Elementary School Principal Jake Rodgers heads into his second year at Gold Bar Elementary, he acknowledges that he has learned a thing or two about his school.
"First, our staff works hard and they care deeply about the kids and families we serve. Second, the Gold Bar community is fantastic,GÇ¥ said Rodgers. "They are fun, supportive of the work we do, and are always willing to lend a hand to make our school-community even better.GÇ¥
Rodgers is planning on continuing to guide the school forward when it comes to student assessment.
"We are also continuing to increase our capacity to help our students master the demands of the new common core state standards,GÇ¥ said Rodgers. "I have the utmost confidence that we have the right people at Gold Bar to take our kids to the next level and have fun doing it!GÇ¥
