Sultan High student one of four Sno-Isle Libraries Art Contest winners

When it comes to art, Sultan High School freshman Mia Stratman has already proven herself repeatedly.
And while it just so happens that she's also really great at public speaking, scholastics and long-distance running, last week, the focus was on her art.
Stratman was recognized as one of four winners of the Teen Read Month Art Contest, a contest which spans the entire Sno-Isle Library system. The contest, which has occurred annually since 2006, gives participants throughout Snohomish County the opportunity to have their art featured on posters which are displayed throughout the library system, as well as in local schools.
This year's theme was "With Books, Dreams Come True.GÇ¥
Stratman, who is from Skykomish, left Sultan Middle School with high honors and is currently serving as the freshman class secretary at Sultan High School.
Stratman has been artistically inclined ever since she can remember. In 2010 she began marketing her work, which includes brightly-colored acrylic paintings, original prints, and greeting cards which she crafts with colored pencils and ink pens.
Her whimsical paintings and other artwork often portray her close friends and family members rendered in "Mia Stratman style.GÇ¥
Her cards can be purchased at the Skykomish Deli and the Skykomish candy shop Toot Sweet, and can also be acquired via her online Etsy store. Stratman had a booth at the Index Arts Festival this summer, and will have a booth at Sultan's upcoming Winterfest event, which takes place on Saturday, Dec. 6 in the Sultan High School Commons.
She is planning on eventually attending college, and is hoping to pursue a career in art.
"One of the places I'm thinking about is Cornish Art,GÇ¥ said 14-year-old Stratman. "But I have lots of high school left.GÇ¥
More of Stratman's artwork may be seen at the upcoming Winterfest and on her Pinterest page, www.pinterest.com/miastratman/. Her online Etsy store is located here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/poppyandclementine.
Editor's Note: Two of the other three winners of the Teen Read Month Art Contest were from the Sky Valley Education Center in Monroe, and will be featured in a future Monroe Monitor issue.
