The Fourth of July in the Sky

By Polly Keary, Editor
One of the valley's regular events, the annual Fourth of July picnic in Gold Bar, has been cancelled. But there are still a lot of fun things to do within a few minutes' drive, including a new and large event in Index that will include a fireworks show.
Here is a roundup of the happenings in the Sky Valley area for the nation's birthday party.
Skywizard Pyrotech show at Paula's Wine Knot
Saturday, July 29
Get a jump on the festivities this Saturday by attending the 3rd Annual Skywizard Pyrotech Fireworks show at Paula's Wine Knot, just south of town off SR 203.
This annual show is put on by Chuck Briggs, who also sells fireworks June 28-July 5 through SkyWizard Pyrotechnics, located at Paula's Wine Knot and River Valley Farm. Briggs will demo some of the products for sale at the stand, as well put on a full-sized fireworks display.
The show is about 16 minutes long, is synchronized to music including the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix and includes some special effects. It's free to park and free to get in. Bring blankets to spread on the lawn to watch the fireworks. The event is suitable for all ages. There are no reservations taken, and in the last two years, turn out has been about 1,000, so get there early for a good seat. The show starts at dusk.
For a preview of the evening's spectacular and elaborately synchronized show, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNpw_Q5YRjg.
