Three Monroe teens earn Presidential Scholarship to attend Eastern Washington

Eastern Washington University has announced three Monroe recipients of the Presidential Scholarship to attend higher-education institute. The scholarship is awarded to students who achieve a 3.8-plus GPA in high school and a 1250-plus score on the SAT or 28-plus score on the ACT.

Nicole Salmi, who graduated from Monroe High School last June, is receiving $3,000 for the 2015-16 academic year, and plans on participating in various clubs and intramural sports. Salmi is the daughter of Kathy and Greg Salmi.

Haley MacRae, daughter of Michelle and Ian MacRae, also received a $3,000 scholarship to attend EWU, where she is currently playing soccer and planning to study early education.

Andrew Zimmerman also graduated from MHS last June, and he now plays football at EWU and is planning to study broadcast journalism. He was class president his senior year at MHS. He is the son of Rita and Robert Zimmerman.
