Turkey targets for Thanksgiving day

By Chris Hendrickson

Whether looking for a way to give back or just to enjoy a stress-free meal, Sky Valley families have a couple of options for obtaining a freshly prepared Thanksgiving Day feast. The following Thanksgiving Day events take place on Thursday, Nov. 24, and all are welcome to attend.

Main Street Café

At Monroe’s Main Street Café, the dining event takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and serves as a fundraiser for Monroe nonprofit Take the Next Step.

Main Street Café owner Sandra Adkins is preparing a Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings, including turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls and pumpkin pie, and guests are invited to offer a donation if they are able.

The goal of the event is to provide a freshly made Thanksgiving dinner that is casual and accessible to anyone who would like to attend. Donations are welcome, but not required.

Adkins is donating her time and food, allowing TTNS to receive 100 percent of the donations.

The Main Street Café is located at 107 W. Main St. in downtown Monroe. For more information on the event, contact TTNS Community Outreach Coordinator Sarah Lunstrum at sarah@ttns.org, or Adkins at 360-863-6713.

Sultan Harvest

Sultan Harvest is an annual free community dinner that exemplifies its theme as the place where “nobody eats alone.” It takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on Thursday, and includes a menu of smoked and baked turkey, ham, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy and several kinds of pie, including pumpkin, apple and cream pies.

Sultan Harvest is planned and coordinated by the Sultan Harvest Committee, in collaboration with the Volunteers of America Sky Valley Services Center. Sultan Harvest is free to attend, and donations are gladly accepted to help support next year’s event.

Sultan Harvest includes Santa photos and a free warm clothing giveaway, featuring gently used coats and other items. Donations are being accepted for both the meal and the coat giveaway, and can be dropped off at the VOA or the Sultan Visitors Information Center.

Sultan Harvest takes place at Sultan High School, 13715 310th Ave. S.E. in Sultan. For more information about Sultan Harvest, visit http://bit.ly/2gyvsad or email volunteer@sultanharvest.com.
