Update 7/7
Gold Bar man Charles Baughn was killed after his car collided with a guardrail six miles east of town and caught fire early Tuesday morning.
The 63-year-old wasn't able to complete a turn while driving eastbound on U.S. Highway 2, according to a Washington State Patrol news release, and left the roadway to the right. The red 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix traveled along the shoulder until it struck a guardrail. The collision caused Baughn's car to burst into flames.
WSP and local emergency responders were called to the scene just after midnight, said WSP spokesperson Heather Axtman. She said commuters were diverted onto Reiter Road while crews worked to extinguish the fully engulfed vehicle.
Highway traffic was impacted for several hours, Axtman said.
The car was totaled and towed from the scene, according to the release. The cause is still under investigation. Baughn was wearing a seatbelt at the time. No one will be charged.
