The city of Sultan and the Volunteers of America are hosting a Veterans' Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11 at 1 p.m. at the Veterans' Memorial Wall at 1st and Main Street.
The main speaker will be retired U.S. Army Brigadier General Robert Reese, Regional Vice President of Volunteers of America.
Congresswoman Suzan DelBene will be presenting Sultan Mayor Carolyn Eslick with a United States flag that has flown in Washington, D.C. over the nation's capitol. DelBene will also present flags to the city of Gold Bar and the town of Index.
"Hwy 2 Freedom RunnerGÇ¥ Sergeant First Class Dave Sivewright will be honoring local veterans with brief biographical information on a select few and will perform a roll call for others.
The National Anthem will be performed by Sultan resident Paula Thomas. The Friends of Sultan Boy Scouts Troup 52 will lead the ceremony with a presentation of colors. The closing prayer will be done by Pastor Steve Boek of the First Baptist Church of Sultan. Bagpipes will be played by Sgt. Brian Johnston of the Monroe Police Department.
The event will conclude at Sultan City Hall located at 319 Main St. in Sultan-á Refreshments will be served and attendees can view military memorabilia on display. The memorabilia will be provided by the Sky Valley Historical Society and local Sky Valley Veterans.
