A Monroe night watchman took on two armed burglars early Wednesday morning and captured one, sustaining several injuries in the process, and a second suspect has also been detained.
At just before 5 a.m., Monroe Police Officers responded to a report of a burglary at the building of a former masonry company in the Fryelands.
A night watchman reported that he'd caught two men breaking into the building. One had a knife and large pruning shears. The watchman got into a physical altercation with them, and knocked one down, detaining him until then police arrived. He was found with weapons in his possession, police said.
The other fled westbound on foot. A K9 unit was deployed, but the other suspect was not found.
About four hours after the break in, Snohomish police encountered a man walking down Lincoln Street. He was soaking wet and appeared to be covered in mud from his waist down. He was not cooperative and ran from the officer. The man, 33, of Sultan, was captured and arrested for obstruction.
In the mean time, Monroe officers interviewed their suspect who named as his accomplice the same man the Snohomish police had arrested.-áOfficers also found Facebook pictures of the two suspects together, in which the younger man appeared to be wearing a black PUMA hat that matched one left at the scene.
The masonry building is currently is being disassembled and watchman was there because there have been recent thefts.
The watchman sustained injuries to his shoulder and wrist, and was treated and released at Valley General Hospital.
A Sultan man, 51, was treated at Providence Hospital in Everett for a head laceration, then was taken to Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of first degree burglary.
