PIERCE COUNTY 

• For Pierce County Council District 3, Republican Amy Cruver, who has worked as an assistant to current District 3 Councilman Jim McCune, has come out with a strong lead, with 42,92 percent of the vote. Vying for second place and to challenge Cruver in the general election are Republican Joe Zaichkin, 21.09 percent, and Democrat Marcus Young, 20.35 percent. McKenna Democrat Yanah Cook trails her opponents with 15.48 percent of the vote.

(R) Amy Cruver: 42.92 percent (7,840 votes)

(D) Marcus Young: 20.35 percent (3,717 votes)

Pierce County Sheriff (Top 2 advance to general election)

Ed Troyer: 52.62 percent (64,410 votes)

Cyndie Fajardo: 20.42 percent (24,996)

Doug Richardson: 15.85 percent (19,404)

Darin G. Harris: 10.05 percent (12,296)

Pierce County Executive

(R) Bruce Dammeier: 55.05 percent (69,536 votes)

(D) Larry Seaquist: 44.82 percent (56,616)

LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT 2

• For the Legislative District 2 State Senate position, replacing state Sen. Randi Becker, who opted not to file again, the top two candidates emerging are Democrat Rick Payne (30.88 percent), and Republican Jim McCune (20.75 percent), current County Council District 3 member. McCune has a slight lead — less than 1,000 votes — over Republican Josh Penner, mayor of Orton, who picked up 17.43 percent of the vote. Eatonville native Republican Ronda Litzenberger, who currently sits on the Eatonville School Board and received an endorsement from Becker, is in fourth place with 14.29 percent.

(D) Rick Payne: 30.88 percent (6,840 votes)

(R) Jim McCune: 20.75 percent (4,596)

(R) Josh Penner: 17.43 percent (3,860)

(R) Ronda Litzenberger: 14.29 percent (3,166)

(R) Gina Blanchard-Reed: 8.25 percent (1,828)

(R) Matthew Smith: 8.16 percent (1,808)

• In the race for Legislative District 2 state Representative position 2, Republican incumbent JT Wilcox has a healthy 44.14 percent of the vote in the district. Based on early results, his most likely challenger will be Democrat Veronica Whitcher Rockett (31.68 percent) who is leading Republican Matt Marshall (23.97 percent). Republican District 2 state Rep. Andrew Barkis is running unopposed for position 1.

(R) JT Wilcox: 44.14 percent (9,802 votes)

(D) Veronica Whitcher Rockett: 31.68 percent (7,034)

(R) Matt Marshall: 23.97 percent (5,323)

• Many candidates are vying for the U.S. House Washington District 10 seat to replace incumbent Denny Heck, who is running for Washington lieutenant governor. Of the candidates, Marilyn Strickland will likely make an appearance on the general election ballot after opening with 21.47 of the vote in District 10. Most likely to challenge her are either Beth Doglio (14.36 percent) or Kristine Reeves (13.17 percent), both Democrats.

• In the highly contested governor’s race, with 36 candidates making up the field, incumbent Gov. Jay Inslee has opened with a commanding lead across the state, picking up 51.92 percent of the vote. His closest challenger, whom he will likely face in the general election, is Republican Loren Culp, who campaigned in Eatonville this spring. Culp is leading the field of challengers with 16.71 percent of the vote. As of Tuesday, his closest opponent is Republican Tim Eyman with 7.04 percent.
