Cruiser baseball walks away with win

The Cruisers hadn’t played a baseball game since 2019 and were eager to get a game in, and it showed last week.

The Cruisers would jump on the Franklin Pierce Cardinals in the first inning and never looked back as they held on for a 15-8 victory, April 5.

“It was just great to be on the field again,” head coach Mike Moeller said. “It was first time since the district playoffs back in May 2019 for my upperclassmen, and first high school game ever for my underclassmen. It felt good.”

Eatonville drew a total of 19 free bases on the day with 14 of those being walks. Combine those with some timely hitting, and they had a recipe for success.

Freshman Cooper Field led the Cruisers by going 2-2 with a double, walking twice, driving in three runs and scoring a run. He would also swipe three bases on the day.

Junior E.J. McMains picked up a couple of hits for the Cruisers, as well, going 2-5 and driving in a run.

With it being the first game of the season, the Cruisers went with a team effort on the mound. They used a total of nine pitchers on the day to help secure the win.

“It was a good first game. [I] was able to throw nine different pitchers and get them all some work,” Moeller said.

Junior Riley Taylor started the game for the Cruisers and picked up the win.

After a couple of game cancellations later in the week, the Cruisers look to keep things rolling this week with three games on the road. They played Orting Monday and Enumclaw Tuesday and take on Washington at 4 p.m. Friday.
