Cruisers shut out Orting in 48-0 rout

The Eatonville Cruisers opened their abbreviated football season with a 48-0 rout over the Orting Cardinals Saturday in Orting.

The Cruisers dominated the Cardinals offensively and scored five of their seven touchdowns in the first two quarters, leading 35-0 by the end of the half. The Cruisers racked up the bulk of their yards on the ground, rushing for 302 yards on 37 carries and five touchdowns, including two from senior Nic Bond. Senior Caden Jumper led his team with 131 rushing yards on 11 carries and one touchdown, while  senior Trevor Scantling and freshman Dylan Norman also posted touchdowns.

As quarterback, Jumper connected on four out of seven passing attempts for 59 yards and two touchdowns to junior Reilly McIlraith and Jacob Lucht. McIlraith led the Cruisers receiving with two catches for 55 yards. Junior quarterback Kevin Wulff rounded out the Cruisers' air attack with one catch in three attempts for 24 yards.

Eatonville's defense held the Cardinals to 46 yards rushing on 28 carries and 7-of-12 passing for 55 yards. Cruiser defenders also earned five sacks, with Bond responsible for 1.5. Junior Blain Hanley led the Cruisers with five tackles and an interception.

Eatonville, which is now 1-0 in the 2A South Puget Sound League, next plays the Yelm Tornadoes March 3 at Yelm. Start time is 5 p.m. According to current rules, no fans are allowed at visiting games. The Cruisers were supposed to play Washington High School on the road Friday, but that game has been canceled.
