At its July 13 meeting, the Pierce County Council passed an ordinance updating the Pierce County Code related to the Coordinated Water System Plan and Regional Supplement 2021.
While the perfunctory update does not solve any major pressing water-related issues, council Chair Derek Young indicated it was a good start for doing so.
“Hopefully we can come up with some solution here in the future because for all of our discussions about concerns about regulatory impacts to construction — especially new housing and the housing crisis — water is the largest barrier,” he said. “It is a full stop to all development in those areas if we can’t get water.”
In other business, the council confirmed the appointment of two new members — Kathy Hayden and Curtis Thiel — and the reappointment of two existing members — Carmen Palmer and Brandy Frederich — to the Pierce County Tax Advisory Committee.
The council confirmed the appointment of David Brock to the South Hill Advisory Commission.
Per the Pierce County Code requirement of at least one evening meeting per district per year, the council set the date of the evening District 6 meeting for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Rainier Room at the Sprinker Recreation Center, 14824 C St. South, Tacoma. This is an in-person gathering.
