Tennis duo finish in top eight at state

After defeating Royal High School's Madi Christensen and Cambelle Anderson 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round of state, Eatonville's double duo of Erin Mitchell and Cassidy Foster lost their quarterfinals match to Freeman High School's Abby Bryant and Ashley Boswell 6-1, 6-1. That loss took them out of contention for the state title, and they found themselves in the consolation bracket looking to battle for a third-place finish at best.

Their quest ended when the duo of Avery Ma and Jazmyn Stone from Annie Wright High School defeated the Cruiser duo 6-1, 6-2, eliminating them from the tournament.

They finished as one of the top eight teams in the state.

Head coach Alex Christensen was proud of his doubles team.

"Both girls were fighters,” Christensen said. “They would never quit, despite being down games or injured. That toughness is one thing that I'll remember from this duo. As talented as tennis players, they were more special as people. They were tremendous senior leaders, and I feel so grateful that I was able to coach them.”
