County Council approves spending more than $17M for housing

The Pierce County Council passed a resolution accepting affordable housing funding recommendations and approving certain expenditures of more than $17.65 million previously approved as part of the biennial budget.

The funds are allocated though the Affordable Housing Document Recording Fee Fund, Housing and Homeless Fund, the Affordable Housing Development Fund and American Rescue Plan Act Fund.

The projects are to be leveraged to help address the housing crisis for low- to moderate-income individuals in Pierce County.

“So, in some cases we’re building, you know, for the very lowest income folks, and that’s typically some sort of permanent supportive housing, all the way up through, you know, people with a little more income but still not able to meet market rate,” explained Council Chair Derek Young during the Sept. 13 regular council meeting.

The resolution passed unanimously.
