The Lady Cruiser fastpitch team swept a doubleheader against the Tenino Beavers this past Friday.
In the first game, held at Tenino, Sara Smith led Eatonville's offensive charge, contributing to seven of the team's 11 runs. Smith's standout performance included a 3-4 hitting display, highlighted by a second-inning double driving in one run, followed by a single in the third inning with two RBI. The climax came in the fifth inning when Smith hammered a grand slam over the left-field fence, her second of the season. Amy Tozier also contributed with a 2-for-2 performance, including a double and two RBI. Smith's versatility extended to the pitcher's mound, where she pitched a no-hitter, striking out nine Beaver batters.
In the subsequent game of the doubleheader, the Cruisers continued their dominance, clinching an 11-6 victory over the Beavers. Once again, Smith played a pivotal role, going 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI. The game, tied at 5 apiece going into the sixth inning, witnessed Eatonville exploding with six runs, highlighted by Smith's bases-loaded double, which drove in four.
Contributions across the roster were evident with Grace Field going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Ava Twedt going 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Morgan Laird going 1-for-5 with a double. Smith secured the win from the pitcher's circle, pitching six innings, conceding three runs on four hits, and striking out five, while Laird provided solid relief pitching.
With these victories, the Lady Cruisers hold a 5-3 overall record and lead the 1A Evergreen League standings with a perfect 2-0 record.
Following a well-deserved break for Spring Break, the team will resume action on April 8, hosting the Vashon Pirates before facing off against the Montesano Bulldogs in a couple of league games. They will travel to Montesano on April 9 before concluding the week with a home game against the Bulldogs on April 11.
