Last Thursday, the Lady Cruiser fastpitch team faced off against the Elma Eagles in a doubleheader, but unfortunately, they couldn't secure a win. The Eagles dominated, taking the first game with a score of 26-9 and the second game with a 17-1 victory.
Senior Sara Smith stood out with an impressive performance at the plate, going 5-for-5 over the two games. In addition to a 3-run homer and a double, she also drew a walk and drove in 4 runs.
In the opening game, the Cruisers initially held a 6-4 lead going into the 4th inning, but the Eagles surged ahead with 6 runs in the 5th inning. Despite a valiant effort from Eatonville, the Eagles continued to widen the gap, ultimately winning 27-9. Smith's standout performance included a four-hit game with a 3-run home run and a double, while Grace Field contributed with a 3-hit performance and Ava Twedt picked up two hits.
In the second game, the Cruisers managed to score only one run, with Aubrey Mills getting on base with a single and eventually scoring on a hit by Ava Twedt. However, Elma's offense was relentless, securing 9 runs in the first inning alone and adding more in subsequent innings to seal a 17-1 victory in just 5 innings.
Aubrey Mills, Smith, Twedt, and Zoe Burns contributed the Cruisers' four hits in the second game. Despite the tough losses, the team showed resilience and will be looking to bounce back in future games.
Their next game, a non-league game against the North Mason Bulldogs, took place on Monday where the team also honored their seniors. Unfortunately, the results of that game were not available at press time.
