Dispatch staffer wins photography award

Michelle Pate of The Dispatch is a winner in the photography competition in the 2014 Washington Newspaper Publishers Association's Better Newspapers Contest. Judges awarded Pate first place in the color portrait category for a picture of two youngsters excitedly spotting an elk while riding a tram on a tour of Northwest Trek's free-roam wildlife area. Pate competed in the Group 1 newspaper circulation category. Awards were announced at the WNPA's annual convention in Chelan Oct. 2-4. The Dispatch is published by RIM Publications. Two other RIM newspapers, the Monroe Monitor and the Capitol Hill Times, also won awards. Members of the Arizona Newspaper Association were judges. Newspaper contests routinely are judged by press associations from other states.
