Eagles ready for perennial powerhouse

Graham-Kapowsin ran away from Spanaway Lake in the second quarter en route to a 45-14 victory last Friday in a showdown between cross-district and South Puget Sound League 4A football rivals. The Eagles, ahead 14-0 after the first period, led only 14-6 following Lakiem Williams' touchdown run for SL in the second stanza. Then the dam burst. Trevor Asbjornsen threw touchdown passes of 17 and 25 yard, Shannon Edwards romped 39 yards for one of his three touchdowns during the evening, and Noah Harden kicked a 27-yard field goal to send G-K rolling into halftime with a 38-6 advantage. The Eagles' second win in a row gave them a 4-1 record overall and a 2-1 mark in the SPSL's South division. They'll take a break from the latter and travel to Sammamish this Friday for a non-league duel with Skyline. The Spartans are one of the more stories prep football programs in Washington, having won seven state championships since 2000, most recently in 2012.
