A nail lodged behind a man's eye resulted in an emergency helicopter flight from Eatonville to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Thursday afternoon. The nail impaled the man's eye socket in an accident that reportedly occurred in connection with a fence project. A South Pierce Fire and Rescue aid vehicle drove the man the short distance from the MultiCare Health System clinic in Eatonville, where he went for initial treatment, to Swanson Field for the airlift. It was determined that a medical evacuation by air would be a more stable form of transportation than by ambulance, given the delicate nature of the injury, said assistant fire chief Chris Grant. Details on the man's condition or where the accident occurred weren't available.
