Teen survives 100-foot fall

The victim of a 100-foot fall last Friday at Mashel Falls near Eatonville reportedly is recovering and out of the hospital. First-responders were called to the scene at 6:30 p.m. where a male teenager fell and landed on a rock surface at the bottom the falls. He was carried out by fire and police personnel to an access road in Pack Forest. From there he was taken to Swanson Field in Eatonville and then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The extent of his injuries wasn't reported, but the teen was released after three days in the hospital and was "expecting a full recovery,GÇ¥ said South Pierce Fire and Rescue chief Bob Vellias. He credited the "great outcomeGÇ¥ to the coordination from all the agencies involved in the rescue. In addition to South Pierce, assistance came from Eatonville Fire and Rescue, Fire District 23, Pierce County Sheriff Department and Eatonville Police Department.
