A pedestrian crossing State Route 7 in Spanaway was hit and injured by an automobile Thursday in an incident that resulted in the driver being jailed. The State Patrol reported the 59-year-old man who was hurt was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma for treatment of unspecified injuries. His condition wasn't known. According to troopers, the victim, who lives in Fircrest, was in the crosswalk at SR-7 and 176th Street South when he was struck by a compact car driven by a 20-year-old woman from Graham. The driver, who troopers said didn't yield to the pedestrian, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and was booked into the Pierce County jail.
