The Eatonville Cruisers and the Bethel Braves are in must-win predicaments in their high school girls basketball district tournaments after losing first-round games Thursday. La Center beat Eatonville 62-36 in the 1A Southwest District, and Curtis topped Bethel 44-34 in the 4A West Central District 3. The tourneys have a double-elimination format, meaning one more loss for the Cruisers and Braves will end their seasons. To avoid that, each team must now win three games in a row to earn one of their districts' berths in the regionals. Eatonville will try to start down that road in Centralia at 6:30 Saturday night against Stevenson, a 58-37 first-round loser against Montesano. Saturday's winner will play again Feb. 17 for the right to play Feb. 19 for third-place and a trip to the regionals. Bethel will face Rogers on Saturday at Mount Tahoma High in Tacoma at 1:40 p.m. Whichever ever team prevails can secure their district's fifth and sixth-seeds to the regional tourney by winning again on Feb. 16 and Feb. 18. Rogers lost to Gig Harbor 63-51 in the opening round Thursday.
