Primary election results official; on to November

Results of the primary election were certified last week by Pierce County election officials, with no changes in the outcomes as they appeared in early returns after voting ended Aug. 4. Fire District 23's emergency medical services levy passed resoundingly, getting far more than the 60 percent yes vote required for approval of the tax measure affecting district residents in the Ashford and Elbe areas. An advisory ballot measure remained in favor of not building a general services office building as proposed for Pierce County government. The non-binding vote could be a preview of the outcome of a citizen-sponsored referendum that will ask voters in the general election in November to reject the project GÇô an outcome that could permanently scuttle it. And voters countywide narrowed the field of candidates for a commission that will review the county government charter. Winners in November will be given six months to recommend possible changes that would go before voters in 2016.
