Rosenlund, Skaggs advance in Graham commissioner race

A firefighter and the incumbent are advancing past the primary election in a race for Graham Fire and Rescue commissioner. In unofficial results from voting that ended Tuesday, Adam Rosenlund, a captain and paramedic with Central Pierce Fire and Rescue, is the top votegetter, and Commissioner Robert Skaggs is second. That sets up a faceoff in the general election in November to determine the winner of a six-year term. According to the Pierce County elections department, Rosenlund has 2,112 votes (53.4 percent of the votes counted by Tuesday night) and Skaggs had 1,457 (36.8 percent). John Seidl, the other candidate on the primary ballot, is out of the race after receiving 361 votes (9.1 percent). Rosenlund, who is supported by the Graham firefighters union (International Association of Firefighters Local 726), has worked in the fire service for 20 years. He has said that Graham Fire needs a new generation of elected leaders. Skaggs, who was first elected in 1990, has been a commissioner for 25 years. He is believed to be one of the longest-serving elected officials currently in office in Pierce County. A total of 10,323 votes had been cast as of Tuesday, the last day that ballots could be mailed to election officials or returned via official dropboxes in order to be part of the results. That's a turnout of approximately 20 percent of the registered voters in the Graham fire district.
