Firefighter on way to being fire commissioner

Voters have chosen a firefighter over a 25-year incumbent in a race for Graham Fire and Rescue commissioner. Adam Rosenlund, a captain and paramedic with Central Pierce Fire and Rescue, received about 58 percent of the votes tabulated in early returns from the general election that ended Tuesday. Though the results aren't official, his apparent victory ousts Robert Skaggs, one of the longest-serving elected officials in Pierce County. He has been a commissioner since 1990. Skaggs also finished behind Rosenlund in the primary election in August. Rosenlund, who is supported by the Graham firefighters union (International Association of Firefighters Local 726), has worked in the fire service for 20 years. He has said that Graham Fire needs a new generation of elected leaders to streamline the district's budget and give the public more transparency in district affairs.
