Recipe for Success: Create a celebration for spring, include lots of hands-on family fun, add a 20-foot inflatable rubber duckie and thrilling pig racing, and toss in a sprinkling of pleasant weather. The result is the Washington State Spring Fair, slated for April 10-13 at the fairgrounds in Puyallup. Gates will open at 2 p.m. Thursday for the 25th annual Spring Fair, with free gate admission for kids until 10 p.m.. A non-perishable food donation is recommended for the Puyallup Food Bank. Free entertainment and activities include a duck scavenger hunt, with the chance to win a pair of concert tickets at the State Fair in September. Also free is the Northwest Junior Livestock Show, with 4-H and FFA students showing their steers, hogs and lambs. Nearly 350 exhibit booths will sell their wares, while the midway will be alive with rides like Rainier Rush and the Extreme Scream. New this year is the MindWorks interactive exhibit in KidZone. Three zones feature 36 fun and interactive games to tease and challenge minds of all ages. Friday marks Military Appreciation Day, with free gate admission to active, reserve, retired military and their dependents with valid military ID.
