Summer track meets for all ages

All ages can participate in the summer track and field meets that will be hosted by Pierce County Parks and Recreation in June and July.
The meets will be held Wednesday evenings June 13 through July 25 (no meet July 4) at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup, located at 601 7th Ave. SW. Registration for each starts at 4:30 p.m. Fees are $7 per meet or $35 for a season pass.
Co-sponsored by the county and Puyallup Parks and Recreation, the meets have events ranging from 50-yard dash for participants 6 years old and younger to a masters 100-yard dash and distance runs. Field events include the high jump, turbo javelin, discus, shot put, and softball throw, standing long jump, and long jump.
A Pierce County Parks spokeswoman said the meets can be an introduction to track and field for younger children and an opportunity for summertime competition. More information is available at 253-798-4753 and www.piercecountywa.org/parks.
