Their strong showing in the 1A District IV track meet last week is serving as a springboard for Eatonville High School's delegation in the state track and field championships in Cheney. For the second year in a row, Eatonville won the boys and girls team titles in the district competition that was staged May 20 in Tumwater. The Cruisers finished ahead of 12 other teams. In the process, they earned a combined 20 entries GÇô 11 for the girls, nine for the boys GÇô in the three-day state meet that will be held May 26-28 at Eastern Washington University. Zarak Scruggs and Ryan Donohue are entered in two boys' individual events apiece. Brailee VandenBoom has the same status in the girls' competition. The Cruisers have some of the top-ranked competitors among 1A schools statewide going into the season finale. On the boys' side, the 4x100 relay team GÇô which includes Scruggs and Donohue GÇô has ranked as high as second. For the girls, VandenBoom in the high jump (with a season-best of 5 feet 4 inches) and Samantha Swartout in the javelin have been among the top four, snd the 4x200 relay squad has been third. The top three district finishers qualified for the state meet. Eatonville's qualifiers include: " Boys: Zarak Scruggs, third in the 100 in 11.95; Josehia Hotz, first in the 400 in 51.88; Dorion Dewitt, third in the 1,600 in 4:40.62; Ryan Donohue, third in the 110 high hurdss in 16.92 and third in the 300 high hurdles; 4x100 relay second 44.76 (Donohue, Ray Springer, Scruggs, Hotz); Tucker Buffington, second in the pole vault at 12-6; Springer first in the long jump at 21-.025; Scruggs second in the triple jump at 42-0. " Girls: Alex Graddy second in the 100 in 13.33; Brailee VandenBoom second in the 200 in 26.90; Emily Padgett second in the 800 in 2:28.56; Isabelle Snyder second in the 3,200 in 11:52.82 (school record); 4x100 relay first in 51.79 (Natasha Henley, Graddy, Skyler Simon, VandenBoom); 4x200 relay first in 1:50.03 (Henley, Graddy, Simon, VandenBoom); Javelin Samantha Swartout second at 114-04; VandenBoom first in the high jump at 5-2; Madeline Madison first in the pole vault at 8-0; Henley second in the triple jump at 32-2; Jaelin Hotz third in the triple jump at 31-11.5.
Braves, Eagles in 4A meet
Bethel (Lauren Hoskie in the 100, Jordan McCann in the 800, Danielle Tabb in the discus and shot put, and Travis Otis in the pole vault) and Graham-Kapowsin (Ali Campbell in the javelin) have entries in the state 4A high school track championships May 26-28 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
