Wrestlers going for state glory

Bethel, Graham-Kapowsin and Spanaway Lake in the 4A competition and Eatonville in the 1A action will be represented in the state high school wrestling tournament that opens a two-day run Friday at the Tacoma Dome. In the 4A Region I tournament last Saturday, state berths were sewn up as Bethel finished fifth and Graham-Kapowsin was sixth in the team results, while Spanaway Lake placed eighth. Curtis won the team title. Top individual finishers included, for Graham-Kapowsin, Mason Eaglin, who won the 120-pound title, Lane Holland, who took the 126-pound crown, and Gavin Eaglin (second at 145). Bethel was led by Philip Springsteen, who won the 160-pound championship with a pin of Rogers' Ty Wilson of the finals, his brother, Dante Springsteen (second at 152), and Tyshane Young, who lost to Holland in the 126 title match Spanaway Lake had an individual champion in Terrance Thomas at 195. Eatonville's delegation includes 106-pound 1A regional champion Wyatt Schrader, a freshman, and Tanner Frost (132) and Zach Trujillo (220), who finished third in their weight classes in the regional meet staged at Castle Rock. In Tacoma, Schrader's first match will be against Nicholas Sommerville of Highland. Frost, a senioir, will open against Dalton Miller of Sultan. Trujillo, a junior, will face Tim Jarrad of Lakeside.
