Equestrians ride high again

Around Eatonville High School's equestrian team, one record-setting ride deserves another.
Mackenzie Huggler, aboard her horse Rooney, broke the school and district record in the barrel run during a WAHSET equestrian meet at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma March 17-19.
Huggler was clocked in 14.473, followed by teammate Kennedy Seroshek in 14.50. Both times eclipsed the previous record of 14.61 that Seroshek set in February in the season-opening meet in Spanaway.
The duo also came within 0.02 of a second from breaking the two-man bi-wrangle event set in April 2016.
Other Eatonville results included Quin Butler taking second place by less than .300 of a second in keyhole, and three Canadian flag teams finishing first (Kenzie Rodewald, KateLynn Helton, Melony Shetler, Gillespie), second (Abby Rodewald, Alicia Cornejo, Ellianna Leonard, Colton Worrel) and third (Huggler,Seroshek, Carlton, Poppin-Eagan), separated by less than two seconds.
Eatonville will travel to Lynden for its final district meet of the season April 20-23.
The top riders in each event from the seven districts statewide will advance to the state meet May 11-14 in Moses Lake.
Eatonville’s qualifiers for the state meet include Josey Carpenter, Camryn Cearly, Alicia Cornejo, Chloe Graham, Bailey Hatler, KateLynn Helton, Mackenzie Huggler, Emily Johnson, Sammi Kuhlman, Sydney Kuhlman, Ellianna Leonard, Bella Monta, Samantha Monta, Kaylie Murphy, Abby Rodewald, Kenzie Rodewald, Kennedy Seroshek, Melony Shetler, Tabitha Wainscott, Colton Worrell and Ann Zillger.
