Outscoring your opponent by a combined 29-0 and allowing just one hit over the two games is a surefire recipe for winning a high school baseball doubleheader.
The Eatonville Cruisers proved that by sweeping away Clover Park 18-0 and 11-0 in a twin bill April 15.
The victories improved Eatonville's third-place record in the Sound Division of the 2A South Puget Sound League to 4-3. Their overall mark climbed to 8-4.
Eatonville used a barrage of hits – 27 in all – to pummel Clover Park. And six pitchers combined to baffle Clover Park's batters, allowing one hit in the opening game and then no-hitting the Warriors in the second.
In game one, Eatonville broke out early, scoring three runs in the first inning, one in the second, and adding four more runs in the third inning to take an 8 -0 lead.
But the big inning to put the game away for the Cruisers came in the fourth when they exploded for seven runs to push the lead to 15-0.
In the fourth, A.J. Goetz led off with a single, followed by Colin Streich being hit by a pitch. Brooks Moeller then doubled to score Goetz and Streich.
With one out, Jay Brymer singled and Andrew Streich walked to load the bases. James Williams then singled to left-center to drive in Moeller and Brymer, and following a single by Zach Smith, Streich scored on a hit by Joel Rodriguez. One more single by Daniel Fuller and another RBI by Moeller would complete the scoring for the Cruisers for the inning.
Eatonville tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning.
Pitchers Fuller, T.J.Goetz and Moeller combined to allow one Clover Park hit and strike out nine Warriors.
In the second game, Eatonville kept rolling, scoring in every inning they batted by capitalizing on 10 hits. The offense was led by A.J. Goetz's two doubles and Brymer, who had two hits.
The Cruisers' pitching was near perfection, only allowing two base runners and giving up a lone walk during the no-hit shutout. Justin Brandt, Zach Smith, and James Williams struck out 10 Clover Park hitters in five innings.
The Cruisers' next scheduled game will be Friday on their field against Renton.
