County fair spins its old-fashioned magic for 70th year

The Pierce County Fair returns this week for its 70th year.
A four-day run at Frontier Park in Graham starts Aug. 10 and continues through Aug. 13. It's billed by its organizers as a yearly celebration of rural life, agriculture and "good old family values."
Fairgoers will find the usual array of agricultural displays and livestock, carnival rides, food, vendors and entertainment when the gates open daily at 10 a.m.
Daily shows by magician Jeff Evans, the Wenatchee Youth Circus, and musicians Greg Parke, Cale Moon and Coal Train Express are on tap. One-day only performances are scheduled by country singer Megs McLean on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. and the dance group High Impact on Friday. In addition, the animated movie "Zootopia" will be screened Thursday night.
Admission prices are $5 for all adults and children 6 to 15 years old, with special deals on Thursday (kids 6 to 15 get in for $1) and Sunday (members of the military are admitted free if they're in uniform or have military ID).
Speaking at a County Council meeting in July, Shelly Bennett, the fair manager, said the fair this year is trying to use social media and other online outlets to promote advance ticket sales, including special offers, in hope of “upping attendance.”
Parking costs $5 in the fair lot.
