Cruisers and Braves thinking playoffs

The Eatonville and Bethel girls teams and Eatonville’s boys team have their sights on the post-season playoffs this week.
Eatonville’s girls enter the 2A South Puget Sound League tournament as one of the top teams.  The Cruisers ended the regular season in second place in the Sound Division with a 12-2 record (17-3 overall). Renton finlshed on top at 13-1, despite a 50-42 loss to Eatonville Jan. 23.
The two-day tournament, which starts Feb. 1 and concludes Feb. 4, will decide which teams advance to the 2A West Central District tournament.
Bethel and Lincoln ended last week tied for the Pierce County League lead with 11-1 conference records. They will face off Jan. 31 on the Braves’ court at 7 p.m. to possibly decide the regular-season title. After their showdown, both teams will have one game left in the regular season – Bethel at Spanaway Lake (0-12) and Lincoln at home against Lakes (7-4). Both contests will be on Feb. 2.
The Braves and the Abes are also playing for the PCL’s top two seeds to start the post-season playoffs. The first seed, or league champion, will play on its own court Feb. 9 to open the 3A West Central-Southwest District tournament. The second seed’s first game at the district level will be at Timberline High School in Olympia. For both teams, their opponents are still to be decided.
Meanwhile, Eatonville will be gunning for a district playoffs spot in the boys’ SPSL tourney Feb. 2 and Feb. 4. The top six teams will advance.
The Cruisers finished the regular season tied with Tyee for sixth place in the Sound Division with matching 4-10 records, partly because of Tyee’s 62-58 victory over the Cruisers on Jan. 24. Eatonville is 8-12 overall.
