G-K's Morris decides he'll be passing for Huskies

For someone who doesn't graduate for two more years, Dylan Morris is quite a newsmaker in the realm of college football recruiting.
Morris, the standout quarterback for Graham-Kapowsin High School, announced last week that he will attend the University of Washington and play football for the Huskies.
The decision by the heavily recruited signalcaller made headlines locally and nationally, partly because he's entering his junior year at Graham-Kapowsin. He won't be able to sign a national letter-of-intent that formally commits him to UW until February 2018, roughly halfway through his senior year.
Some media outlets and observers of recruiting speculated Miller could change his mind before then and sign with another college. Others that have pursued him include Notre Dame, Oregon and California.
But in a radio interview with KJR 950 in Seattle, Morris said nobody should doubt that he's firmly committed to Washington. He called himself a lifelong fan of the Huskies, said the school and the program of head coach Chris Peterson are the best fit for him, said he wanted to put to rest any discussion about where he might go, and indicated he might try to complete his high school education ahead of schedule so he can enroll early at UW.
Those comments matched the sentiments he expressed when he announced his decision via Twitter on July 16.
“I’m staying home. A huge thank you to coach Petersen and the rest of the UW staff,” Morris tweeted.
He went on to thank his mother and father for "their guidance" and the rest of his family and friends for their support, as well as "all of the schools and coaches who have recruited me thus far. This has been a very incredible journey and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities it has provided. With that being said, I am furthering my academic and athletic career at the University of Washington. Go Dawgs.”
Washington reportedly was one of the first schools to offer a scholarship to Morris. Notre Dame was another.
He's one of three highly touted quarterbacks who have committed to joining Washington over the next two years. The others are Jacob Sirmon of Bothell and Colson Yankoff  of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, who will be part of the 2018 class of recruits. f
Morris spent part of last week participating in the UW-sponsored passing tournament at Husky Stadium.
In his interview with KJR, Morris described himself as a strong competitor who can read defenses and "make all the throws."
At Graham-Kapowsin, Morris has passed for 40 touchdowns and more than 4,000 yards over the past two seasons. The Eagles posted a combined 20-3 record and reached the 4A state tournament twice, losing to Camas in the first round last year and to Lake Stevens in the quarterfinals in 2015.
At the end of last season, Morris was picked as the quarterback for the 4A All-South Puget Sound League team.
Morris is the second highly acclaimed football star at Graham-Kapowsin to garner major exposure along the college recruiting trail in the past year. Foster Sarell, the All-State and All-American offensive lineman who was coveted by virtually every major univesity team in the country, announced in January he'll go to Stanford. Sarell, who graduated from G-K this year, had Washington among the final four schools he considered.
