Wind blows out electricity for some

Nearly 100,000 Puget Sound Energy customers, including a small number in south Pierce County, lost their electrical power during a strong windstorm that blew through the Puget Sound region on Monday.

Officials for the utility (PSE) reported some areas of Graham lost their power in the mid to late-afternoon on Monday and were still without electricity Tuesday morning. PSE estimated power would be restored to the 75 affected customers there by 10 a.m.

According to PSE, crews worked through the night to restore power to customers impacted by the winds. As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, power had been restored to more than 79,000 customers. Approximately 17,000 customers remained without power.

As crews finish work in one area, they were assigned to repair damage in another, a PSE spokesman said.

Steady wind with gusts over 60 miles per hour hit the region. By Monday night, the wind eased, but winter storm warnings remain in effect through Tuesday afternoon.
