Get involved without getting out of your pajamas

By Alison McCaffree
The League of Women Voters of Tacoma-Pierce County welcomes its first virtual Unit Meeting. This gathering is open to anyone in the League, and the general public.
Do you work during the week and need your Saturdays for taking kids to soccer or running errands? Do you wish you could be more informed and more involved in the issues of our times, but can't ?nd the time to go to a League of Women Voters unit meeting? Are you less mobile and need to stay in? We now have the answer.
Please join me and other like-minded activists on the second Wednesday of the month (September-May) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for an online Unit Meeting. We will connect online via the Zoom video conferencing platform. The two-hour meetings will cover messages from the League, a speci?c advocacy topic, discussion time and social time. We will cover similar topics to the in-person Unit Meetings.
We welcome anyone who has a conflict with the regular meetings to join us in any given month.
The first meeting will be Sept. 13 at 6:30. September's topic is “Back to League.” The program will bring members up to speed to start the year. We'll talk about
the "big picture" understanding of the why, what and how of the League. And, for long-time members, you'll hear about what's new in the coming year. The public is welcome. You don’t need to be a League member to attend.
There are many advantages to attending a virtual meeting: You don’t have travel time. Just jump on your computer. You can listen later. The meetings will be recorded. You can adjust the volume as needed. You don't have to get a babysitter.  You can drink your own coffee. And you can be in your pajamas.
On the meeting day, 15 minutes before the meeting starts:
• Go to https://zoom.us.
• Click on "Join a Meeting."
• Enter meeting code in the box: 835992457.
• Click Launch Application if you see the system dialog. If nothing prompts from browser, download and run Zoom.
• You will be asked to register with your name and e-mail address at the first meeting.
