Eatonville United Methodist Church housed a group of young adults on their way to a grand adventure earlier this month as part of an organization called Bike & Build.
“Bike & Build engages young adults in service-oriented cycling trips to raise money and awareness for the affordable housing cause. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that fosters a sustained connection to community,” states the Bike & Build website, bikeandbuild.org. “We advocate for the need for affordable housing in thousands of communities across the country.”
Though Bike & Build’s reach extends to Eatonville and beyond, the organization is headquartered in Philadelphia.
According to Bonnie Ritchea, an area resident, the group of about a dozen young adults used the church as a pit stop on their way to complete an outdoors adventure.
“Through service-oriented cycling trips, Bike & Build benefits affordable housing and empowers young adults for a lifetime of service and civic engagement,” the website states. “Tuesday morning they continued their trip up Mt. Rainier.”
The website also states that it’s vision is for the generations of the future to be “committed to a lifetime of civic engagement.”
The engaged members of the future generations would include diverse individuals from varying communities who help inspire other individuals and communities to create housing that is fair for all Americans.
