Abbey Aney earns Masonic Outstanding Citizenship Award

Abbey Aney received the Sultan-Monroe Masonic Lodge #160 Outstanding Citizenship Award for 2014.
The brothers of the lodge, after researching Abbey, realized this young lady lives the Masonic tenants of faith, hope and charity by conducting fundraisers, gathering donations and even giving her own gifts to underprivileged children of Monroe so they can have Christmas gifts delivered through the Sky Valley Food Bank.
Abbey, who just turned 11 Sept. 8, has been gathering toys for over six years and hopes to have received donations of 15,000 toys by Christmas.
WB Larry D Foley, Chair of Sultan-Monroe's Citizenship Committee, brought Abbey's achievements to the brethren and they voted unanimously to award Abbey with the lodge's Outstanding Citizenship Award. Foley stated, "Abbey has done more to help children in her short life than many adults will do in a lifetime.GÇ¥
Inspired by Abbey's achievements, the brethren also went to the Monroe Chamber of Commerce to request if Abbey could ride in the parade and possibly be the Junior Grand Marshal upon which the Chamber's Board of Directors unanimously agreed.
When asked why she does this for other children, Abbey replied, "God told me to do it and I just cannot fathom any kid not having a toy on Christmas morning.GÇ¥
